SAMSUNG GALAXY S6 EDGE+ REVIEW:SAMSUNG'S BEAUTIFUL BEAST
Wow. I'm short of adjectives to use for this phone. Is it flawless?Perfect?Beautiful?I don't know any more. I mean,I started with the Zero 4 plus from Infinix and that one was a beast but compared to this one....hmmm. I had the priviledge of testing this phone for a month now and I can boldly say it ticks off all the boxes required for a $530 phone and even a little more. I mean, the design is very beautiful. You can't just have the phone on the table or desk and keep staring at it without picking it up,even if you don't want to DO anything with it. Don't take my word for it,here's a picture.
Okay enough talk. I'll be doing the display next. Grab something to eat if you haven't done that already.
DISPLAY AND SCREEN SIZE
There arrived in the box this massive but VERY lightweight 5.5 inch phone.I didn't know what to say. The display measures 5.5" diagonally and has a QHD(2K) resolution giving you about 518 ppi(approximately). For those of us that don't understand all that, in summary, the screen display is AWESOME. Blacks are as black as they should be and whites look a bit brighter than normal by you can totally control the contrast, saturation, etc of the screen through the settings. But WAIT. There's a major bum. And that is the strain put on the battery by the screen. Somehow, with that sort of screen resolution,3000mAh doesn't seem enough(not even on the HOT S by Infinix with a 720p screen display. Review coming soon). The display saps about 38% of the battery when at its lowest point, and even the battery saving options can't save you from the screen(yes not even the near military ultra power saver ). This is my first major put off of the phone.
Now , next to other interesting features of the screen. The "edge". The edge not only beautifies the look of the phone, but adds quick access to certain selected apps and even contacts which can be a pretty nifty feature at times. But apart from beautification and apps and contacts edge, the edge screen is pretty much obsolete. But it IS beautiful to behold.
DESIGN AND PLACEMENT OF PORTS
The phone,as mentioned earlier,Is very light and super slim. It measures 154.4*75.8*6.9mm and weighs just 153g(the HOT S is lighter at 140g) and has a good screen to body ratio at 75.6%. It has the USB(no type C here) port, mic, speaker and 3.5mm jack taking the bottom while there's nothing on top. The volume up and down buttons are to the right, while the left is bare and the single micro SIM port on the top(weird,I know). But left to me,the placement of these ports is perfect especially the 3.5mm jack which removes the need for weird hand movement to remove the phone from your pocket whilst listening to music.
Overall, the design is good, beautiful and will DEFINITELY turn heads if you take it out in public.
CAMERA
The phone has a 16MP cell that is very capable of meeting your needs. It bulges a little bit,but its the price you have to pay for such a slim flagship. With f/1.9 arpeture, single flash, OIS and auto focus, this camera screams "use me" right out if the packaging.
So as not to fill this blog with my beautiful pictures and selfies(by the way,it comes with a 5MP selfie camera)I'll post a few pics. Look at the output. The camera outperforms the S5's in low light and macro shots. Take a look:
AUDIO AND CALL QUALITY
Audio on this phone is quite good(no really,it is). Given my love for good quality music like the one from Tecno's phantom 5 or the Zero 3 compared to those two this one doesn't stand a chance, but it still performs albeit not too good for a Samsung of its price.
Call quality is good and the phone made browsing on Glo manageable. I had no problems hearing the person on the other side although there was a little glitch along the way in one of my calls.(network maybe)
SOFTWARE
The phone comes with Touchwiz™ UI developed by Samsung and it pretty much flows on the phone like water flows in a stream. Fast. Fluid. No hitches or signs of lagging. You don't wait for Touchwiz. It waits for you.
PERFORMANCE AND SPEEDS
The Galaxy S6 Edge + comes with an Exynos 7420 Oct processor, 4GB of RAM and 34/64GB internal, so therefore it is very fast. It loads apps speedily, by it I did have a little problem with it. Playing two heavy games at the same time using split screen display makes the Gorilla Glass 4 back unbearably hot and you'll have to drop it. The same goes for charging it whilst using it, just like what I'm doing with my laptop right now. In conclusion, the phone is fast enough for picky users, and more than fast enough for regular users.
BATTERY LIFE
As stated earlier, the battery life on the phone is mediocre, thanks to its screen and meaty processor. The phone ended up staying for 6 hours of regular use and 4.5 hours while playing games, browsing the internet and other heavy activities.
MISCALLENOUS
FINGERPRINT SENSOR
The fingerprint sensor on this phone(which is embedded into the physical home button) is AWESOME. It takes less than a second to scan your finger(even when
your finger is wet) (did I mention the phone is waterproof?) and it can be used to verify online payments through Samsung pay. Very neat.
FLAWS
now, as there are good sides to everything, there are also bad sides. There's no such thing as a perfect phone, but not withstanding, the flaws:
The back of this phone(covered with gorilla glass 4) is a fingerprint magnet. Unless you have a cloth at reach to keep wiping the back of the phone, I suggest a case.)
The phone kept getting hot under normal use, but for a long time of use. Not cool.
CONCLUSION
hmm. The phone is a little outdated(runs Android 5.1 but can be upgraded to 6.0.1) and has a few flaws but overlook those flaws and boom! a nice perfect phone. Believe me, if you buy the phone, you won't regret it. Thanks for stopping by.
