IPS vs AMOLED: The differences explained

Image
For a long time, since the first smartphone whose screen you could touch and have a response came out,IPS panels have been used. They are a type of LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) that uses In Plane Switching technology,in which the refresh and revise rates of the screen are much quicker than regular LCD,leading to faster frames and less skipped frames(like on the iPad Pro 2017,which a refresh rate of 120Hz). They were used because of the simplicity of creating them and the fact that they were really cheap to come by,and really the only option then. TFT (Thin Film Transmission)is a sort of screen tech(based on LCD) which uses really thin transistors below the touch area to remit your touches to the software, leading to much thinner and lighter devices. Explanation of LCD in Itself For those of us who don't know,LCD stands for Liquid Crystal Display. This type of display uses pixels that are illuminated by the use of a backlight sitting behind the panel of pixels.  In other words, they a...

Apple iPad Pro 10.5" review

Image
This is a major diversion from the original all iPad Pro,and I like it very much. It has greater specs,a camera identical to the iPhone 7(and 7+) and a beyond QHD screen(1668×2224). It is also the priciest at €720,which is really expensive  in Naira. But,for a worthy cause. Let's get right into the review! Apple has gone the right way by reducing the bezels, and adding a ring flash ,which is awesome. The camera is awesome. The processor is awesome, and iOS 10.3.2 never looked better. Plus, the screen renders swiping just as quickly as your finger,so the swiping is really fast, but not so when reading a book. More on that later. This is actually the best tablet inn the world right now,and if someone was to ask me"Are tablets still any good?",I'd say"if it's not Apple(or Xiaomi, and that is a big OR),just forget it". That doesn't mean there aren't good tablets out there, but this one beats them all. The design  is classic Apple. Just look at it,so...

HTC U11 versus the Galaxy S8

Image
Ebuka/Tycoontech on Honestly,it's been a long time since HTC and Samsung faced off in an epic battle that left consumers indifferent as to which phone was best. HTC has mostly been the underdog ,and if there is any better time to look at the underdog,I think now is the time. Okay, since I've only ever reviewed the S8,let's take a brief tour of the U11. The HTC U11 is a great alternative to the S8 in terms of design. It has a body identical to the S8,in that the rear curves seamlessly to meet the front. The only design difference between it and the S8 is the obvious fact that this lacks an infinity display. Otherwise,it's a great looking phone. The back is glass and reflects light in a beautiful way. If you're getting the phone,go for the blue version. Because this is a rounded, glass phone, it’s also quite slippery. HTC thankfully includes a clear plastic case in the box though, so perhaps this isn’t the biggest issue for folks who like to protect thei...

A Quick Look at the Oppo R11

Image
Oppo has done something most brands strive to do,and they have done it excellently. And what is this they have done? Well, they've made a dual camera setup. But not just any dual camera setup. It works just like the iPhone 7 Plus's setup. More on that later. Alright, given. This phone looks a LOT like the iPhone 7+. The antenna lines,the...wait. The antenna lines? Yup. But there's more to just that look. Look closely, and you'll see two lines instead of well, two. But these two are placed strategically, and this ultimately leads to a slim design and the best quality you can get in terms of reception. No,I have not been bribed by Oppo, and I am returning these, just like most of the phones I review. The quality is quite good. Oh,did I mention it has dual cameras? The whole OS is in Chinese, but Oppo has told me(I was really surprised that they speak English)that a global version of FunTouch OS ROM will be available soonest. FunTouch,as other Chinese ROMs look...

iPHONE SE Review 2017:Is it still worth your money?

Image
It's not design nostalgia. It's not simply size. One month at tycoontech and Apple's iPhone SE is almost... magic. Do you really need to be told that an iPhone SE is the right phone for you? That one of the only devices with both a 4-inch screen and a current-generation spec sheet is worth your money? Of course not. But what I can help you with is how it feels to go from an iPhone 6s Plus or an iPhone 6s back to the iPhone 5s form factor, and how it impacts your life in meaningful, often unexpected ways. iPhone SE is a wonderful, almost-perfect iPhone. But its imperfections may gall some potential buyers, because it lacks much of what makes the latest, albeit far more expensive, iPhones what they are. Given that I have never used any iPhone for more than 5 minutes(except the iPhone 7) the fact that I like this phone means a lot to me. Anyway, here's what you lose with the iPhone SE. Obviously, by going from an iPhone 6s or 6s Plus you lose quite a bit of what m...

What is Qualcomm Quick Charge 4.0?

Well,if you've been following Qualcomm chipsets, they mostly come with a certain type of enhanced charging that enables the phone charge much faster than regular phones without that tech. Think of this chart: Quick Charge 1 : 0 to 30% battery charge in 30 minutes. Quick Charge 2 : 0 to 60% battery charge in 30 minutes. Quick Charge 3 : 0 to 80% battery charge in 30 minutes. Quick Charge 4 : 0 to 50% battery charge in 15 minutes. Now,from the chart, you can see that the charging times reduce while the amount of charge increase. And you're wondering,"why not just,say,80% in 15minutes?" I'll explain. First, the battery of the phone needs to be made of some special material (unlike the regular Li-Ion or Li-Po batteries) that can withstand the current being pumped into the phone. That is why. These new enhancements include Dual Charge, Intelligent Thermal Balancing, and Advanced Safety Features. Now that QuickCharge 4.0 is here what makes it different fro...

Those WTF moments!

Image
When I heard what has happened to Apple recently,it got me like Because,North Korea has made a tablet called the 'iPad'(even with the small letter I),and there is nothing Apple?the biggest tech company in the world right now) can do about it. Amused? Read on! A North Korean technology company—Myohhang— recently launched a brand-new tablet that has been named after Apple’s trademarked iPad making it the first device launched out of North Korea that directly uses Apple branding. It’s powered by a quad-core 1.2GHz CPU and comes packing 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage. In the box is an HDMI cable and a keyboard, along with “network capabilities”. Now, according to Apple’s trademark and copyright guidelines: ‘You may not use or register, in whole or in part, Apple, iPod, iTunes, Macintosh, iMac, or any other Apple trademark,’ the guidelines state, ‘including Apple-owned graphic symbols, logos, icons, or an alteration thereof, as or as part of a company name, trade name, p...
