The LG V30 might come with a dual camera setup with an amazing arpeture of f/1.6! Do you know what this means? See also: How smartphone cameras work It means that the amount of light entering this thing would be massive. Photos would have unmatched quality, and no other camera would stand a chance. The front of the phone may also look like this: Like all rumours, these should be taken with a pinch of salt. But,if this is how it actually turns out, would you buy one and for how much? How smartphone cameras work

Image
The fact that people take a lot of photos on their smartphone is nothing new. In fact, many manufacturers now make phones which emphasize the camera as the main selling point of the phone. The Infinix Zero 4, Camon CX ,HOT S,many phones from many manufacturers emphasize on taking great shots. But many people do not know how these cameras work. So,I'll explain. There are six basic steps in taking photos on a smartphone camera. They are: 1. The user (or smartphone) focuses on the object. 2. Light enters into the lens.(light is everything on photography) 3. The arpeture controls how much light enters into the lens. 4. The shutter determines how long the sensor is exposed to light 5. The sensor captures the image 6. Post processing takes place in the software of the phone. There may also be some noise reduction. Since most of the machines that do this are relatively simple machines, they all follow the laws of physics. Now,in smartphones, some problems will arise. These problems

Android phones for ₦20,000 or less

The question is,can you really get a phone in Nigeria, with latest Android 7.0 for less than 20000 naira? Yes. Yes is the answer. Sure,it wouldn't have the greatest specs, the latest processors or the best battery life, but if you need a phone for a 7 year old who pesters you a lot, these will fit in just fine. In no particular order, here are some smartphones costing at least 20000 naira in Nigeria(links lead to Jumia Nigeria) 1. Why a curved screen?

Image
Curved screens are no longer new. Samsung has been doing them for a while now,and others have joined with 2.5D glass. Even the iPhone 7 has a curved screen. But,the question is why? See also: Galaxy S8 Review ! 1. They improve immersion This is the biggest argument made in favour of curving phone and TV screens. The idea is that by curving the image slightly forward, the world you’re watching seems to ‘wrap around’ you more, entering slightly more into your peripheral vision and thus drawing you deeper into the world you’re watching. Imagine watching a 3D movie on a flat screen. It wouldn't really do justice to it,no matter how high quality the screen is. 2. They just look cool It's really cool to press(and recently write) on screens that just don't follow the pattern of being flat. It really is. 3. They enhance contrast This is an interesting one. The argument goes that curved screens focus the light coming from the screen more directly at your eyes – in mu

How to care for your phone

Many of us(I think all of us)nowadays use smartphones. But there is a problem. The lifespan. Some of us who can spare lots of Clement Isiongs and Alhaji Aliyu Mai Bornus tend to buy a phone and change it within the space of a year. Some decide to use theirs for 2 years, and some can go on using one for as long as 3-4 years(my sister still has an iPhone 5s,I wonder when change would come). The truth of the matter is that as no phone is perfect, they tend to fall apart with constant use. The battery gets weaker, some pixels die in the screen, the processor speeds reduce, and etc, etc. So,here's how to prolong the lives of your smartphones. 1. NEVER charge it overnight I know that a smartphone is capable of switching its power source to the incoming current when its battery is full, but this is no reason why you should leave it overnight. If your phone is dead and you need power the next day,and you can't wait, charge your power bank instead. Most of us have one thanks to

Why your phone no longer charges quickly, and how to solve it

Image
Most manufacturers nowadays push out devices with special methods of fast charging. OnePlus is on top of this food chain, charging a dead battery to 70% in just 30 minutes. That's called Dash Charge.™ Samsung implements Qualcomm Quick Charge,Oppo uses VOOC,Huawei uses Super Charge, and so on. The problem with most of these is efficiency. If you bought a phone from any of the above named manufacturers and it came with that type of feature, you'd want it to last forever. But it won't. So here are some reasons why your phone which formerly used to charge quickly now moves along at a snail's pace: 1. Your USB Cable is bad For those of us still using Micro USB,you'd notice that on the end of the cable which you plug into your phone, there are two things like hooks. If these things bend, your phone is likely to charge slower. This is because those things are put there to hold the phone in a specific position that allows current to pass through quickly. If those things flat

IPS vs AMOLED: The differences explained

Image
For a long time, since the first smartphone whose screen you could touch and have a response came out,IPS panels have been used. They are a type of LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) that uses In Plane Switching technology,in which the refresh and revise rates of the screen are much quicker than regular LCD,leading to faster frames and less skipped frames(like on the iPad Pro 2017,which a refresh rate of 120Hz). They were used because of the simplicity of creating them and the fact that they were really cheap to come by,and really the only option then. TFT (Thin Film Transmission)is a sort of screen tech(based on LCD) which uses really thin transistors below the touch area to remit your touches to the software, leading to much thinner and lighter devices. Explanation of LCD in Itself For those of us who don't know,LCD stands for Liquid Crystal Display. This type of display uses pixels that are illuminated by the use of a backlight sitting behind the panel of pixels.  In other words, they a
